Remember Him — Weekly Encouragement – April 26, 2020

……………………………………………………………………“This is My body, which is for you…”………………………………………………………..

Greetings Friend,

“…in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (2Peter 1:5-8)

I’ve heard the sermon, maybe you have too, that we need to try harder to have and increase these qualities so we won’t be useless in our faith. It sounds good, and we leave church thinking, “I’m really going to work on that” – but then we’ve forgotten the list of qualities before we even get out to the parking lot. Deciding to try harder will never work!

God showed us the problem, through Peter, “For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins.” (2Peter1:9) It all starts at the Cross! It’s not about our trying harder – it’s all about Jesus!!

Can we lose our Salvation? I think Scripture very clearly says “No”. But we can forget what Jesus did to set us free.

So, here’s the Encouragement: Don’t forget! Jesus established the Sacrament of Communion saying, “…Do this in remembrance of Me.” Let’s remember Him (then we don’t even have to memorize the list of qualities – they will be ours and increasing).

God bless,

Dave
