Guard Your Heart — Weekly Encouragement – October 18, 2020

Greetings Friend,

“…’Watch out! Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.’” (Mark 8:15)

That seems like an appropriate warning for us today – don’t fall for the misguided and unproductive dictates of religion (Pharisees) and especially today, don’t look to politics (Herod) for your answers.

Jesus explained how it happens that we get distracted and even off course, He said, “…’Do you not see or understand? Do you have a hardened heart?’” (Mark 8:17)

Do you have a hardened heart? I’m asking, do you? Because that’s where all the ugliness is coming from in this election season. A hardened heart comes from gross pride that says, “I want mine!”; “This is about me getting my way!”; “My opinion and my benefit matters more than yours!” And even if the attitude is not so overt, the pride comes through loud and clear.

Beware! Pride will harden your heart so that many will be wondering, “Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember…” (Mark 8:18)

So, here’s the Encouragement: Guard your heart lest it become hardened in this season, so that with your humble heart you can hear HIS voice and see HIS ways. For He is Life and His ways are Eternal – not at all like that of the “Pharisees” or “Herod”.

God bless,

Dave
